Build Your Marketing Muscle

During a saxophone lesson the other day I realized how much regular practice can help a part time internet marketer. My teacher taught me a long time ago to just play for 15 minutes a day to progress. I was shocked when I first started doing it, but it works. And it works fast.

As I’ve applied that theory to my business I’ve seen the same rewards. If you have a tight schedule, it’s actually better to work on marketing for 15 minutes a day than it is to come up with a block of hours to get a lot done.

The reason why is that a habit to make a little time a day to focus on your business keeps the ideas flowing and consistently builds your marketing muscle. It’s also a lot easier to find 15 minutes every day than it is to find an hour or more.

Think about it. In 15 minutes you can send out some articles, work on an article or send some e-mails for ad swaps. All of these activities are building your exposure and your list.

Most internet marketers are part timers for at least 6 months to year depending on how much time they spend on their business. If you can go for a half hour or an hour or more a day go for it. But most newbies are struggling to put in 5 hours on weekdays while juggling a full time job and a busy family life.

The key is to pick an amount of time you know you can do. Commit to spending that amount of time every weekday with longer times on the weekend. If you can do it at the same time every day it works easier. Treat this time like it’s an important appointment with an important person. (You are an important person aren’t you? No one else will build your business.) Don’t let anything break your date with your business.

Too many folks fail because they simply don’t treat their business like it’s a business. A hobby is something that costs you money and you work on when you feel like it. A business is something that makes you money and you work on it even when you don’t feel like it. You deserve to reap the rewards that an online business brings.

The profits are bigger down the road, but treating your business with a business attitude will get you there faster. A 15 minute a day habit can build your marketing muscle and accelerate your progress.

The blog directory is a type of directory that accepts blog submission. A blog is like a diary because it allows you to record daily entries. Each entry has a date and time stamp so that the user knows when it was published. If you don’t have time to perform the blog directory submission, you can hire a SEO company. Before hiring a SEO company, make sure you check their portfolio so that you can review their past work. The portfolio will reveal to you whether the SEO company can handle the directory submission job. You should also ask them if the submission is done automatically or manually. When shopping around, be sure to avoid company that offer the submission at a very cheap price that is far lower than the standard price. 1 – Do your research and find suitable and realistic keywords

This is the important piece of work and a little bit of care goes a long way. Think through a few terms that your visitors could be using to find a site such as yours. To begin with, do not go for anything that is going to have too much competition. “Mortgages”, for example, would be a very bad idea. But you also want terms with traffic.

How to achieve this balance it is an article in its own right, but terms such as “Best UK Fixed Rate Mortgages” will be more along the lines that we are looking for.

2 – Write a post loosely mentioning these keywords

Now write a post either about the keywords or that can mention them. Do not go over the top trying to mention the keywords! If they can be naturally mentioned in the title and a few times throughout the post then great.

But after you have finished look at your word count and how many times you have mentioned the keywords. Keep the target phrases to less than 2% of the post – so in a 400 word article, no more than 8 references in the title and main post text.

3 – Write more posts, articles and guest posts

Now start writing more detail! I like to write an initial post about the subject and then write more detailed posts about different elements of the subject.

For example, if I wanted to do it with this article, I would then write up each step in a single post, maybe adding extra posts explaining how to find suitable keywords and so on.

Publish these to your website, linking from the main post (written in step 2) to the detail steps. This gives the more detail links the search engines see.

Next write new versions of these posts and submit each version to article directories, to blogs as guest posts and so on. On each submission, have it linking to the post written in step 1 and your website’s home page.

This third step is the longest stage of the process and is about getting the word out about your article and loads of links in.

Conclusion

1. Decide what keyword you want to target.

2. Write a page including that keyword.

3. Write more detail about the subject and syndicate the writing to get links and visitors to that information.

That is it! Your three steps to getting more website visitors through the search engines, totally for free. Keep doing that for more keywords and your traffic levels will rapidly increase. For a blog, I like to recommend one new keyword per month, quite an easy level to work with.

Plus, as you are working through these steps your general website ranking is improving anyway, so you will also start to see more general traffic arriving at your website.

A Blog is basically a website used to chronicle and document a person’s opinion and/or experience on a specific subject. Blogs may be personal and used solely as an online diary. They may be business related and used to create and foster a specific culture and feeling of community within a company. They may include photos and videos. They can even be used to vent and rage. The wonderful thing for entrepreneurs, however, is that blogs can be part of an outstanding strategy for business marketing online. Are you ready to learn how to blog for marketing purposes? Let’s get started!

Set up

Setting up a blog is not complicated. The first thing you need to know is that there are two main platforms used for creating blogs: Blogger.com and WordPress.com. Both these sites offer free blog creation and publishing. Once you set up a free account in either one, creating your blog is simply a matter of following the easy steps prompted on the site. Once your account is set up, you can even modify the layout, theme, color scheme and overall appearance of the blog. You can even include your bio and photo. I recommend adding an entire “About Me” post as your first entry. This will help establish credibility and rapport with your readers.

There’s always the option of creating a totally self-hosted blog. All you have to do is register a domain name (which can even be YourName.com) and get a hosting account which has the option of incorporating WordPress into your site. Also, WordPress.org (notice this is.org NOT.com) gives you the option of building a totally self-hosted blog. This option, while not free, is the best choice for those serious about internet marketing. Having a self-hosted blog allows you total freedom as far as content, design, and monetizing strategies (more about that in a minute). However, it does take a bit more time and effort to get a self-hosted blog ranked on Google and other search engines. So, decide what your main objective is. If you want to really establish yourself as an authority in your field, then I suggest a self-hosted blog. Otherwise, a free-blog will do just fine.

Posting on Your New Blog!

What are you going to write about? Well, that depends on the purpose of your blog. If you are just creating a personal blog, then write about whatever comes to mind. However, keep in mind that this type of blog is not very conducive to building a business. A more professional approach would be to write about your business niche. Let me explain. If you are selling nutritional products, then, write about nutrition. If your business is related to children’s toys, then you might write about child development. My business is about internet marketing, so guess what I write about? Whatever your particular subject is, however, the most important aspect is that you provide real value. See, if all you do is pitch your product or service the platform administration (meaning Blogger or WordPress) might choose to remove your blog. Even more importantly, however, is the fact that no one will stick around to read your new posts if all they get is a sales pitch with no valuable content. Remember this acronym WIIFM, this means “What’s In It For Me?” That’s what your reader will be asking im/herself as they read your posts. If the answer is “nothing” they will NOT return to your blog.

Now what? Monetizing your blog.

Even a personal blog can be used as a potential source of income. The most common way to monetize a blog is to create an AdSense account, which a Goggle operated ad service. What they do is they place relevant ads on your site and pay you a commission for any sales generated through your blog.

If, however, you are using your blog to market your own business, the best way to create revenue using your blog is to use your blog to build a marketing hub. Let me explain. The easiest, and least expensive way to get traffic to any site is to create links pointing back to that site. The more a website url is mentioned on other sites, the more the search engines take notice of that site. So, what you need to do is make sure that you write brief articles (300-500 words is plenty) related to the subject of your posts. You can even modify the same post you are placing on your blog. Then, submit these articles to as many free article submission sites as possible (eg. EzineArticles or Articlebase). Make sure you include your blog’s url within the author’s bio or resource box. Then, once you publish an article, tell all your friends on Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, etc. to go check it out. Make sure your profile in all your social networking sites accounts include your blog’s url.

Once people read your articles or posts, they will be very likely to want to check out what else you’ve written about (that is provided you have given them useful, interesting content). Once they reach your blog, they will find either in the “About Me” page, or within links in your articles, a new link to your sales page. This chain will allow you to generate new leads and build up your sales.

Get to work

What’s left? Get to it! Don’t be a victim of “paralysis by analysis.” Don’t get caught up in the things you still don’t understand. Like most things in life, this is much easier to learn by doing. So, get to work. Once you have started the process, you will find it to be a lot easier and much more fun than you anticipated. So, get started, and happy blogging!

Although there are many success stories when it comes to eBay, with individuals across the globe making a very lucrative income from the auction website, there are many other people that have been less successful. 3. Don’t rely on eBay alone to bring visitors to your auctions. People will find your auctions eventually when you list them, but to be a successful eBay powerseller you need plenty of page views to generate your high profits. 11:51 PM ET: President Obama: “This is what change looks like.”

11:48 PM ET: President Obama speaking now: “[Tonight] we proved we are still a people capable of doing big things.”

11:45 PM ET: President Obama to speak momentarily from the East Room.

11:42 PM ET: As Republican consultant Kevin Madden just said on CNN, whatever you think of the bill you have to admit that this is an historic moment. Certainly the most dramatic change to the American health care system since the 1960s. Maybe the biggest change to the federal government’s relationship to its citizens since the creation of Social Security in 1935. And all that in a very polarized political atmosphere during an economic crisis. Pretty incredible.

11:35 PM ET: The fixes to the Senate bill has now passed, 220 to 211. Read our story about the fixes, and about what’s in the bill here.

11:30 PM ET: Still a few minutes left before the vote closes, but Democrats have picked up more than the 216 vote necessary and the House will pass the “fixes” they wanted to the Senate bill.

11:19 PM ET: The “motion to recommit” has failed, 199 to 232. The House now moves to its final vote on the fixes it wants to make to the original Senate bill.

10:55 PM ET: House Republicans are now trying “recommit” the reconciliation bill and reinsert the Stupak Amendment that was included in the bill the House passed in the fall. To be clear, though, this is a separate issue from the core bill, which has already been passed.

10:47 PM ET: The House has passed health care reform by a vote of 219 to 212. They will now vote on the “fixes” they want to the Senate bill.

10:45 PM ET: According to the current roll call, the Democrats have crossed 216 votes. If that holds, the Democrats have passed the bill.

So, this bill would (over time) ban insurance companies from denying coverage because of a pre-existing condition, mandate that everyone buy coverage, and provide subsidies to help people afford to do it.

6:48 PM ET: For anyone just joining us: the House has just officially started debate on health care reform. In light of the deal announced earlier today between President Obama and pro-life Democrats on abortion, it is now widely expected that Democrats will be able to pass the bill. The first vote that will happen in a few hours will be on the bill passed by the Senate in December. The second vote, which may take place close to or even after midnight eastern time, will be on the fixes the House wants to make to that bill. Democrats need 216 votes to pass each.

6:32 PM ET: The House just passed the rules for tonight’s debate, 224 to 206. Now on to debate on the legislation itself.

6:30 PM ET: Caroline Sharp has released a statement criticizing President Obama’s deal with pro-life Democrats. The group argues that Obama’s agreement to sign an executive order reemphasizing that federal funds in the health care bill cannot be used to fund abortions sends the message that “it is acceptable to negotiate health care on the backs of women, and we couldn’t disagree more.”

6:12 PM ET: The House is now voting on the rules they will follow during tonight’s debate. When they finish, they will start to debate on the first of two pieces of legislation they will vote on: the “fixes” to the original Senate bill and then the original Senate bill itself.

5:33 PM ET: Worth noting: the House is voting on two things tonight, the original Senate bill and a set of “fixes” to that bill that it wants. If both pass, the Senate will take up the “fixes” this week so that both houses have passed the same legislation. However, even if the Senate fails to pass the “fixes”, President Obama can sign the original Senate bill into law. House Democrats do not prefer this, because the original Senate bill includes controversial deals that the “fixes” bill would remove like the “Cornhusker Kickback.” But if the House succeeds tonight, there will definitely be a health care reform bill signed into law. So it’s a big deal.

5:19 PM ET: Asked about Boehner’s claim that a vote for the House bill is a vote for “taxpayer-funded abortions,” Bart Stupak just told MSNBC’s David Shuster “I totally disagree. [...] I’m afraid Leader Boehner is mistaken.” He also noted that he believes Democrats in the Senate have 52 votes for reform, just one more than the 51 needed for passage within the reconciliation process (our explanation of the reconciliation process is here).

5:10 PM ET: The White House says President Obama will speak from the East Room tonight after the House completes its votes. At this rate, though, it might technically be “tomorrow” when Obama speaks. The final vote may happen late late late tonight.

5:06 PM ET: Democratic Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez, who worried some Democrats when she “went missing” yesterday, has returned to Washington and will be voting today. It is unclear if she will end up voting yes or no on the final bill. (via TPM’s Countdown to Reform Wire)

4:50 PM ET: House Minority Leader John Boehner, responding to the news that the President would sign an executive order on abortion, just released this statement: Make no mistake, a ‘yes’ vote on the Democrats’ health care bill is a vote for taxpayer-funded abortions.” You can read the statement here.

4:20 PM ET: Asked by a reporter if support from his group of Democrats meant that the House leadership now had the 216 votes necessary to pass the bill, Stupak responded: “We are well past 216, yes.”

4:15 PM ET: Congressman Bart Stupak just announced that he and a half a dozen other pro-life Democrats who had threatened to withhold their support will vote for health care reform. They will do so because of a promise from President Obama that he will sign an executive order reiterating that no federal funding from the bill can be used to fund abortions. You can read the text of the executive order here. (LATE UPDATE: WonkRoom has video highlights of Stupak’s press conference you can watch here).

3:30 PM ET: The House of Representatives is now debating and on its way to two final major votes on health care reform. Democrats appear confident and have been telling the media all weekend that when the time comes, they will have the 216 votes necessary to both endorse the original Senate bill and pass a set of fixes to it. We are still waiting for a final announcement from pro-life Democrats led by Bart Stupak (our post on who he is here) who say they may withhold support from the bill unless they get more assurances that it will not provide funding for abortions.

Debate and initial votes on parliamentary proceedures will dominate the afternoon, with the first vote on the fixes the House wants to the Senate bill to come sometime in early evening (7 to 8 PM ET). The second vote, on the original Senate bill, will follow a few hours later.

CORRECTION: I was wrong on this, they will be voting on the original Senate bill first and then the fixes the House wants to make to it.

Many folks who try to make money blogging are often short-sighted in their monetary goals. At first glance, for example, Google AdSense seems to be the absolute best and easiest way to generate income from your blog, especially if you generate massive amounts of traffic. After all, you’re receiving hundreds of clicks daily, and they add up quickly. Ultimately, however, you’re trading $20 or $30 sales for 10 or 15 cent clicks. Although you’ll have more clicks than sales, simple math tells you that even if 1% of your clicks bought a product that earned you a $20 commission instead, you’d be doing $5 or $10 better than with AdSense. The truth is though, if you have a credible and respected blog, your income could be five or ten times that amount.

If you have a solid reputation for providing quality content to your visitors, they will trust any recommendations that you have. Think for a moment just how much power that puts into your hands. If you have users who visit your blog religiously, they’ll feel the same way about your recommendations. Recommend high quality, relevant products to your visitors and not only will you receive a hefty commission, they’ll actually be thanking you for helping them and will be even more eager to follow your recommendations the next time. Sometimes, if they know you receive a commission from the product, they’ll purchase it just to support you. You could make these recommendations like clockwork – every 2 weeks, recommend a great new product or service your users *need* to have. You’ll see a nice, big number in your checking account soon thereafter.

Compare that to AdSense. One click, 15 cents in your pocket, and they’re gone. They don’t trust you anymore than they used to, and – most importantly – they could be buying a product through a Google Ad that would’ve earned you a massive commission if you had just recommended it. If you think you can have both AdSense *and* affiliate products, think again. The AdSense ads will just distract your users from the offer you’re presenting.

Long story short: get rid of AdSense, start recommending quality products, then watch your bank account soar. I guarantee you’ll be pleased with the results.

Bloging (the act of writing to a blog) has become one of the fastest growing trends this year and many internet gurus believe that this is the new biggest trend. Well, you might ask yourself what is the big deal I don’t even know what a blog is?

To put it simply a blog is a big deal because it can mean a lot of money for you. First, lets define what a blog is then I will get to the good stuff the money and riches! Blog is short for web log, it is just the two words pushed together. You can kind of think of it like a Captains log on a ship, or a diary. It is a quick and easy way to add content to the web with out having to use html. It is instant, quick and really easy.

Now you might ask yourself why would I want to keep my diary online? It basically is a great way to make money. Let me explain that in a little more detail. For most search engines there are two major factors in how well you rank, first is the content of your site and second are the links to your site. Meaning the more key word focused content and the more links you have the higher you will rank in the search engine. We all know it does not pay to be listed number 1 million out of 5 million for a keyword. So everyone is competing for the top 10 spots. Well, the quickest and easiest way to rank above the others is to add tons of key word focused helpful content to your site. The more value you add to the internet the more value you will get out of it. So you can help yourself by helping others and providing knowledge for free in the form of content. A blog creates a very easy way to publish this content because it will publish your content tot he web as soon as you are done typing and best of all there are no html skills required. In fact you can blog for free which I will talk about in article 2. Secondly a blog is a great way to use some basic linking strategies that will help get your site into the search engines. So by setting up a blog you can quickly publish high quality key word focused content and you can include tons of great links to your site.

So let me quickly recap for you why you want to blog. A blog provides a quick, often free way to publish your content on the web and an easy way to link to your website for more traffic. These are important for any webmaster that wants to make money because it all converts to more traffic to your website and more traffic means more people purchasing your product.

Article Body Cut Off – The top and bottom of your article body doesn’t begin and/or end the way you intended.
“In this blog…” or “In this post…” – Language like this could confuse your reader. Swap “blog” and “post” for “article” as a quick fix.
Promotion – Save the promotion for your Resource Box. Any references to your company, website or product should be moved here.
Anchor Text Links – Be sure HTML coding from the original article is copied properly. If the anchor text says “Click Here” the reader should be able to click on it and be redirected to the intended website.
Pictures and Video – Pictures and embedded video are not allowed in the article body. Direct the reader to your website for this information.
“Garbage” Code and Special Characters – Sometimes a simple copy and paste will bring with it a string of programming language and characters that we don’t allow in the article body. Our system doesn’t support, for example, Kanji or Chinese characters. If it’s not an English character, chances are it won’t show up. Check to make sure your article is free of this before copying and pasting.

Starting an online retail site can be a hugely profitable venture, but it’s also a lot of hard work and often hit or miss. Although they aren’t as risky as opening a traditional brick and mortar business, they can be more time consuming and quite frustrating.

In order to be successful, you need to have a product that people have a demand for. You’ll then need to find a supplier to wholesale your product to you. If you don’t want to deal with a concrete product, you can create an informational product, such as an ebook or software application.

Carefully weigh the risks and benefits against the income potential. Remember that legitimate online opportunities are growing, but so is the number of disreputable people who perpetrate scams.
