There was no panache, no zip, no rollicking to-and-fro to the proceedings. Perhaps it’s because the new MPs are too intimidated by Speaker John Bercow to kick up much of a fuss. Who would have thought life under a coalition government would have been so dull?

David Cameron seemed like he was still the leader of the opposition as he attacked a Labour party which – despite an entire month in opposition – remains shackled to its 13 years in power.

He told the party opposite they were becoming “more and more authoritarian”. Jack Straw was roused to flap his hand slightly when the prime minister told him Labour had “given up” on civil liberties. Ed Balls was told he was the “Alf Garnet” of British politics.

Cameron was as deft in riposte and as light in manner as a featherweight boxer, gleefully running rings around the very tired-sounding Harriet Harman.

She is utterly at the end of her tether, spent, exhausted, kaput. Before the election Ms H sounded like a clapped-out old schoolmarm, rebuking her wards ad infinitum in the same plaintive moan-o-tone. Now she sounds like a schoolmarm who has lost her job (probably an efficiency saving) but can’t stop moaning nonetheless. It’s a painful prospect.

The occasion was as dampened as the miserable weather. But it was not the unseasonal dark clouds outside which was overshadowing parliamentarians. Instead the real reasons for the lack of spark were the twin tragedies of Cumbria and Afghanistan.

They haunted this session from its very beginning, when Bercow called for an unusual one-minute silence to mark the first weekly anniversary of the Cumbria shootings. Sixty seconds passed mournfully in the eerily silent chamber. The hushed atmosphere, coming so soon after the jovial knockabout of Cabinet Office questions, was a credit to the Commons. No mobile phones went off, at least.

There were subplots to keep things interesting. Labour leadership hopeful Diane Abbott was seen flitting about, desperately rushing to secure more nominations as she neared her target. With just minutes to go until the 12:30 deadline she was seen haranguing the Beast of Bolsover, Dennis Skinner, in an apparently unsuccessful attempt to win him over. How ironic that, only moments before, she had been seen irately tapping her wrist to indicate passing time. Then it was because a Tory backbencher’s question was excessively long. In fact it summed up her losing battle against the ticking clock.

Then came the coalition tensions, with Nick Clegg literally Cameron’s right-hand-man. The Liberal Democrat leader nodded especially vigorously when Cameron mentioned a meeting of the “joint ministerial council”, whatever archaic Cabinet body that may be. We can be sure Clegg was present.

He and George Osborne exchanged little snippets of small talk every now and then, to demonstrate solidarity. They did so with the awkwardness of teenagers at their first grown-up party.

At least the session ended on a more cheerful note. At no further cost to the taxpayer, Cameron announced triumphantly, “the flag of St George will fly over Downing Street”. Come on, Eng-er-land!

The Scottish National party’s three MPs looked on dourly. There’s no pleasing some people.

By the way Diubell-I hope you are well. It seems that the principal seems to be with some people that they can give it out, in the shape of insults, then, they go running to mummy when they get a dose of their own medicine. I dont know if you saw Deadlox remarks about Pat Macmara, to the effect that she had blackheads under her b–t. I may have been a little in your face to the BNP brigade, but I never swore and I never made insulting remarks to a lady. I have not approached the moderator on this matter but several people have. So when you make remarks about people ganging up-point the finger in the proper direction. As for Mr Raylann, it is okay for him to make sneering anti-feminist remarks, and snide remarks about the teaching of the arts, but its running to control time when he gets a dose returned to him. Personally. I want to tone down the rhetoric-lets see if we all can agree to disagree. If some of my remarks were a little over the top, then I apologise. But please remember, I got some stick as well.

I did vote UKIP ( your memory is good ) , mainly because i wanted to see another representation in parliament , and i like some of the things they say . I still feel that the dimentions ( or dynamics ) are too narrow . In time , i believe there will be changes for the better in our politics , but not if people are too afraid to break the mould . Looking at the alternatives , i've yet to be convinced otherwise .

Labour ruled from the centre right and now needs to do some apologising for Iraq and indentity cards. Socialists believe that those who work by hand or by brain should share in the wealth they produce. Your descriptive terminology should be aimed at those, like BP, who think they can damage the worlds enviroment, in their pursuit of greedy profits.

Who , other than the finance industry ( and that is what it is ) can either accept or condone what the banks worldwide did to destroy economies ? Thanks mostly to the US , followed very closely by the UK 's banking's unbelievable greed , the whole world must now ' pick up the tab ' .

This is simplifying the cause , i know . I don't buy the supply and demand argument either .

Let's not beat around the bush . They fcuked up .

It takes blind greed to play Monopoly with other peoples money .

The lending institutions lent to people who could not afford to repay the borrowing . Nothing new in that , except those collective banks were passing on those huge debts disguised within money shifting deals . The only thing ' propping ' up this wonderful money game , was property prices . And after over-inflated property values it was only a matter of time before that bubble burst .

My critisism is with our ( and the US ) governments inability to forsee this , and then put up some safety measures , or at least pre-empting the banking collapse by talking the Bank of England to see how this can be managed . 3 – 4 years ago it might have worked , although SO much money was lost , perhaps the banking culture was beyond that .

Now the banks are paying themselves huge bonuses ( again ) for making profit out of money that given to them to ' bail ' them out . Tax payer's money . How is that right ?

We've started to regulate the banks – but it's not enough .

Seems the only people who are left smiling as we come out of a recession caused by them – are the bankers .

I get emails from companies wanting to lend me money every day . Some from the US .

I'm neither tempted nor interested .

But they're still out there and i'm sure the temptation is too much for some .

As we're all skint , it's down to us to bail ourselves out this time .

sean….81/82….you are really good at making things up, aren't you? Where in any of my posts, have you seen that I supported the actions of the banks and that of Nu labour? The bank's behaviour was dispicable and so was the government's for not keeping a closer eye on the situation. You cannot tell me that we have, overnight, got into the state we have- why did not that whizz kid with finance, Brown, ring the warning bells sooner and quit spending the Nation's money on his pet schemes with money we didn't have? That is why I would never vote Labour again, after being a lifetime supporter.

The actions and personna of Blair, Prestcott, Kinnocks and Mandleson were all completely diametrically opposed to what you expect of good Labour practice and were traitorous to the Labour movement and to coin a phrase, 'it's another fine mess they've got us in!'

PS I'm doing as you suggested and getting another job rather than blogging. Unpaid of course, at our local hospital, so hope Unite isn't watching! Glad to hear you're going to tone down the venom. Let's hope your other 2 mates do likewise as the people who used to enjoyably contribute on this blog are disappearing like snow in summer at the present time.(and to get up the nose of someone as friendly as Sanddhi is really going some!)

Oh, Its Raylann the little innocent. There is an old saying:if you hand it out, you should be able to take it. I took plenty and did not complain. You, it seems, can hand it out, but cannot take it. Gizmodo iPhone scoop harvests page views, and ethical scrutiny galore – Yahoo! News

For tech blog Gizmodo, the hits just keep coming.

The site launched its week with a bang, posting an exclusive breakdown of the features of Apple’s forthcoming 4G iPhone. That post alone netted 5.3 million page views, instantly boosting the site’s brand identity far outside the world of gadget junkies.  

But Gizmodo kept going. In an unusual move, the blog published a follow-up post recounting the backstory of how it got its hands on the jealously guarded phone — and unabashedly owned up to paying $5,000 to the man who’d discovered the device on a barstool in Redwood City, Calif. 

Paying for scoops is a practice most press critics deride as “checkbook journalism” — and dismiss as the stock in trade of tabloids like the National Enquirer. But page views are hotly coveted currency in online journalism — and as Nick Denton, the blog baron who owns Gizmodo as part of his Gawker Media empire, explained in an interview with the Village Voice, similar quasi-payola arrangements are a common practice in the tech journalism world. “The usual gadget journalism … involves sucking up to Apple and hoping you’ll be given a review copy,” Denton said. In his view, this transforms tech reporters into “extensions of the PR industry.”

This “everybody does it” rationale calls to mind many a misbehaving schoolboy’s first alibi of choice.  (The ethical standing of Gizmodo could be further complicated by the suggestion that, under California’s criminal code, the site may have been in receipt of stolen property — though there’s no indication so far that Apple intends to pursue a criminal complaint.)

But whatever the ethical justification, the page-view returns of the iPhone scoop have been enormous. Gizmodo picked up another 1 million views for its behind-the-scenes account of acquiring the prototype phone, and when it posted a letter from Apple demanding the phone’s return, that worked out to another half a million views.

All told, it wouldn’t be surprising if the site pulls in at least 10 million more page views than it logs in an average week. So journalistic ethics aside, let’s consider what the $5,000 in purchased access netted for Gizmodo and its Gawker Media parent company. Even at a conservative cost of $2 per thousand page views from advertisers, the scoop would have brought in $20,000; dropping to 50 cents per thousand, Gizmodo would still break even. (Former Gawker editor Choire Sicha once pegged Gawker’s normal price per thousand page views at more than $15. While that would produce a huge windfall, it should be noted that unpredicted spikes in traffic cause a site to rely on fallback advertising to fill up space instead of direct premium ads that command higher rates). 

However, revenue is only one measure of success — perhaps even more important in the long run in building an audience is publicity. Denton has lately been pushing his writers to deliver more big-ticket scoops to continue building the core Gawker audience. In a recent staff memo, he advised them to work the sweet spots of the social media world, focusing “on the stories that have the potential to break out on Twitter, Facebook or in TV coverage.”

And sure enough, the iPhone scoop broke out in full viral fashion on social networking platforms, with cable and broadcast networks also picking up the story. “Good Morning America” trumpeted it as “the tech scoop of a lifetime.“

Even so, some writers in the tech world dismissed the Gizmodo story as so much heavy-breathing chatter about a product that would create a media stampede on its eventual release date anyway. Veteran tech writer Andy Ihnatko also questioned the site’s pay-to-play acquisition of the phone. “Gizmodo’s story is very, very fishy, and they need to be far more open about the provenance of the device,” he wrote. Denton wasted little time firing back, telling Ihnatko via his Twitter account that his sites will “do anything for a story” and that their “only obligation is to our readers.”

So is it better to play ball with Apple’s PR apparatus or to court its wrath by paying for a super-secret product? And is the resulting publicity worth the ethical scorn of mainstream media outlets like the New York Times, which strictly forbid paying sources for stories? For Denton and company, the choice was clear.

“We had a story. We wrote it,” he told the Village Voice. “You know how Gawker works. If you think too much about the consequences, you just become part of the system.”

Blogs means different things to different people: to journalists they are unofficial sources of information, to the ordinary Joe they are an Online diary or forum, to repressive governments they are subversive and a threat and to the Internet marketer they are a marketing tool!

Starting as humble “Web Logs” kept by Internet Geeks, blogs have moved fast to occupy center ground. A good example of what a professional quality blog can look like is Jim Edward’s blog http://www.igottatellyou.com/blog/

How to get started

Internet Newbies who wish to start Blogging must first find Blogging software.

The three main varieties of blog software are

1. Blogger, free and very easy technically

2. WordPress, free ( and priceless as WordPress fans remark ! )

3. Typepad, monthly charge

4. Squarespace, monthly charge

We will use the free one – Blogger. which is very “Newbie friendly”

First visit Blogger http://www.blogger.com/home

You find yourself at what I call the front page of Blogger and what Blogger calls “The Dashboard”.

Now use the “Create a Blog” button. You are then asked for a Title or name for the blog and then a web name. The name should reflect the desired subject matter of your blog and the web name is probably going to be shorter and conform to the usual rules – no spaces etc.

Mostly people Blog either by going to http://www.blogger.com/home and entering their password and username clicking on New Post and just typing straight in or by downloading the Google Tool Bar with the little orange Blogger button. To get this, go to Google.com and click on the “more” link on the right. You will find the little orange Blogger button and can download it and install it.

You may have the Google Toolbar already. In Internet Explorer, click on View and then on Toolbars, if you see Google there tick it and use it, otherwise you need to download it. The exact details may depend on the version of Windows you have etc.

After opening an account at Blogger jot down a few notes, Remember this is a website, the whole world will be able to read it so don’t put anything in it that you might regret!

When you sign up for a Blogger blog you will be able to add “Adsense” to the blog. This is a clever form of advertising and in principle can earn you money when a reader clicks on one of the Ads”. If you have a high traffic blog with thousand of visitors per month it is true that income from such advertising can be substantial – earning hundreds or even thousands of dollars. For the Newbie Adsense is just a distraction in my view and is not likely to earn a substantial income.

If you can use a blog and add to it regularly and build an archive of content you may soon be ready to think of putting a website together and that for most people is much more lucrative.

How To Make Money In Blogging

There are two major types of business models that entrepreneurs use to make money blogging. The first and most common way to turn a blog into a profit making machine is to sell advertising to different companies and brands who want to reach that blog’s readers. The second kind of money making blog is one that helps a single brand improve its image by creating positive associations between the blog and the product in the mind of consumers. Both kinds of blogs can make a lot of money, especially if the creator has a keen mind for marketing.

If you are blogging with the goal of selling advertising, there are two basic ways that you can go about recruiting sponsors who want to put ads on your site; you can let someone else do all of the legwork, or you can do the work yourself and keep all of the revenue. Within the first group, many people make money blogging by selling space through Google’s AdSense program. The advantages of this program are numerous, as it requires very little effort on the part of the blogger or webmaster to begin raking in profits. However, most people discover that they make less money through this method than they had hoped that their blog would earn.

Selling advertising directly to companies who want to put banner ads or sponsored links on your blog can take quite a bit of time, but it is often fairly lucrative. If you have a lot of contacts in industries that are related to the
topic of your blog, you may want to try to go this route. People who have a strong background in sales and are experienced at pitching proposals can make quite a bit of money by renting blog space to interested companies.
The most serious problem with this model is that you often have to build quite a sizable readership before you can attract advertisers, which can mean that you have to do several months of work before you start to make money blogging.

What Is Dude I Hate My Job?

Dude I Hate My Job, was created by Adam Horwitz, also the creator of Tycoon Cashflow & Cellphone Treasure. It’s basically an online tutorial course where Adam himself, shows you how you can turn your passion into cash.

How Does It Work?

All you really need is a passion or an interest in something, and even if you don’t he shows you how to find one. All you need to do is think of some ideas of how you want your blog to look, and Adam does the rest for you. One quick point which I will share right now is that he makes it extremely easy. You don’t have to worry about the technical stuff, because he shows you everything in abc steps.

How Do I Make Money?

You will make money from a variety of sources but the main two income streams will be from Google AdSense, and Affiliate Products. Google AdSense is basically ads created by Google, and when somebody clicks the ad, you make money. Affiliate products can range from anything from items on amazon, to dog training ebooks. When somebody purchases something through your link, you receive a commission. Once again, don’t worry if you don’t know how to do all of this, because you will learn how to do it on the course.

Is It Worth It?

Without sounding like a sales pitch, it is without a doubt the best product I’ve bought online. All you basically have to do is copy Adam and write in what you want about your passion. If your working in a job you hate, I can’t emphasize how much you should try his product, it will change how you think about work. Work doesn’t have to be work and it shouldn’t be!
